Your Google Business Profile Website Link Changed (and Why That's Riskier Than It Looks)
Sanderson Oliveira - CEO - The ProfileWard Team · September 23, 2026
A wrong website link is more than a broken click. Google's policies are specific about what a Business Profile's website field is allowed to point to, your business's own site, not a third-party booking page, an unrelated domain, or a redirect chain, and a link that violates that policy can put the whole listing at risk, not just the one field.
The two ways this actually hurts you
The obvious one: a customer clicks through to the wrong site, or no site at all, and never gets the chance to book. The one owners miss: if the link that got substituted violates Google's linking policy, the profile itself can end up flagged for a rules violation you never committed.
Fix the link
In Business Profile settings, under Business information, correct the website field directly to your actual domain. If you use a landing page instead of your homepage, make sure it's a page you control and that it clearly represents your business, not a generic aggregator or booking platform page Google's policy treats as a violation.

Like the other fields covered in this guide, the website field can be affected by public suggested edits. It can also drift if your own domain changes, redirects, or gets restructured without the profile being updated to match, which reads to Google as a mismatch even though nothing malicious happened.
What Google's link policy actually restricts
- The link should go to your business's own website, not a general marketplace, directory, or social media profile used as a substitute.
- Redirect chains and cloaked links (where the visible URL differs from where it actually leads) are treated as a policy violation, not a technical quirk.
- A link that was compliant when you set it can become non-compliant later if the destination changes without your profile being updated, so it needs periodic rechecking, not a one-time setup.
Checking whether this already put you at risk
If your profile has received any suspension or policy warning recently, recheck the website field specifically as one possible cause, alongside the suggested-edit and category issues covered elsewhere in this guide. A wrong link is an easy thing to overlook while troubleshooting a suspension for other, more obvious reasons.
